During the golden age of steam locomotives, major stations were typically equipped with locomotive depots, which almost always featured a turntable.
Because the design of steam locomotives limited their direction of travel, they had to be placed on a turntable at intermediate or terminal stations to be turned around. While there, they would be serviced—replenished with coal, water, and sand (for traction)—before departing to haul their next train.
An electric turntable is the perfect centerpiece for recreating the atmosphere of a locomotive depot from the "good old days," when steam locomotives were the stars of the railway. Based on the "deck-girder" style—which features a relatively shallow pit—this unit offers smooth, bidirectional rotation and a precise stopping mechanism, greatly enhancing the enjoyment of operating steam-powered trains. (2) To connect to the turntable, attach the outer perimeter panels to the outer track sections, then connect the adjacent tracks.
