JR EF64-0 Series Electric Locomotive (7th Batch, JR Freight Refurbished Version)
The EF64 is a DC electric locomotive that debuted in 1964, designed for use on steep-gradient lines; its high versatility also allowed it to be used on flat-terrain sections.
Many of the 0-series units inherited by JR Freight underwent refurbishment. Initially, they featured a three-color livery—light purple, sky blue, and deep blue—but from around 2002, this was changed to a two-color scheme consisting of light purple and deep blue.
Locomotives based at the Shiojiri Engine Depot operated on the Chuo and Shinonoi Lines until 2008, while those based at the Aichi Engine Depot served on the Chuo and Shinonoi Lines until 2011, and on the Hakubi Line until 2013.
